Are you looking for an Artist?
Meet Model, Artist and Future Filmmaker Kayla Grivois
What are your goals?
Currently, I've made it a goal of mine to get back to my filmmaking, but I want to integrate the style and movements that I've adapted from modeling. I basically want to make music videos and go big; well, as much as I can with what resources I have available.
Eventually, I would also like to do some traveling and modeling in other countries. I've always been a sort of vagabond with wanderlust and it would be an amazing experience to do what I love while seeing the world.
What/who inspires you?
I follow a couple of artists on Instagram that inspire me. I first wanted to get into modeling after becoming aware of a model by the name of Kelly Eden and from there, I went down the rabbit hole. I follow @porcelainette and her creativity blows my mind. There's also @kali.ledger and @applelovemakeup. Sometimes I find inspiration in the spiritual books I read or some of the music I listen to. It plays out like a music video in my head a lot of the time. @theresafractale is also another huge inspiration for me; her images are always captivating and representative of the sort of images that I want to create.
I haven't really given thought to a "dream location," but if I had my way and there was nothing standing in my way, I would be down to doing something in the middle of the desert or in the Puzzlewood forest in England, that would be a dream.
What did you want to be as a child?
I went through a series of things that I wanted to be when I was a child. First, it was to be an archaeologist, given my love for the video game Tomb Raider. Then, it evolved into wanting to explore the depths of space as an astronaut. I never really thought of myself as being an artist at this age, although I had started modeling when I was a child. It didn't last for very long as I became more of an introvert with stage fright, but now I absolutely found my calling in being a fantasy model.
How long have you been modeling?
Actively, I would say it's been 2 years now.
What is your focus/genre?
I'm big on the fantasy of it all, with a little bit of macabre. I would do more special effects/body paint if I could because I think that would really be a lot of fun, but it's my aim to stick within the realm of dreams.
What would you say is your greatest accomplishment?
I feel very blessed to have been featured in several magazines thus far. It really allows me to see that I've had so much growth since I first started and I think what helped was figuring out who I wanted to be as an artist, not just as a model. I essentially found my niche. Before, I thought to model meant I was supposed to do everything and anything thrown at you, but I wasn't satisfied. And my photos were of high quality as I gained more experience, but I don't feel as confused or lost now as I did before. I'm more certain in my direction and what vision I want to share with the world.
Funniest Situation you’ve ever been in?
I asked a friend of mine if I could use her mermaid fin to be a mermaid for just one day, to check it off my bucket list and let me just tell you, that thing is heavy. And it wasn't even the heaviest that they can get. It's a good leg workout and trying to take majestic photos lifting 20 pounds into the air with your legs essentially strapped together and waves crashing against your backside is a very interesting experience. Not to mention, you do this at the beach with onlookers and everyone is pointing and staring at the mermaid.
What about your style makes you so unique?
I think my style is rather unique just because I find that I am inspired by so many different styles that I don't try to follow one path. I instead take the bits and pieces of what I like from all of them and kind of mash them together to make something new. I think it works best that way because you end up knowing exactly what you like and you own it.
