Becoming a model can be easy, or it can be difficult, depending on how you approach it and the people with whom you associate.

Here are 5  tips to get you started on your modeling career:

Evaluation by Experienced Professionals

Before you do anything, and I mean anything, you must, MUST look into potential agencies and make sure they’re legit.

It is very important to get the opinion of more than one agent or scout because many agents and scouts specialize in just one particular area. Some only represent editorial (high fashion) models, and others may only represent commercial models, child models, plus-size, showroom and fit models or petite models. Just because one agent can’t represent you, it doesn’t mean that another agent won’t. Getting the opinion of several different types of agents is the best way to find out if you have what it takes to be a model.

Build Your Modeling Portfolio

Once you know your angles and your poses, it’s time to hire a photographer. In order to get your face out there, you’ll need more that a few selfies and party pics snapped on your iPhone. You’ll need to build a modeling portfolio. Portfolio standards have evolved a lot over recent years and you want to make sure your portfolio is professional and polished.
Maintain your appearance.

You need to maintain your appearance if you want the attention of an agent, healthy and well-groomed. What you wear and how you carry yourself are important as well, but you should have a routine that supports the health of your skin and hair.
Look for exposure.

Meeting more agents and clients can lead to new opportunities and connections. You can try emailing your photos to agencies or mailing hard copies to their offices. If you live in a big city, you should also attend open casting calls, which you can find by searching online. Just check out the agency’s site beforehand to see how they would like you to dress.
Don’t give up!

If this is your dream and you really want this, never give up. The pay isn’t great starting out as a model but if you’re prepared for that, it will be a little less stressful.
